Yevuard is Ged's older brother, a mage, scholar, researcher, and Akshan dragon. He is more than happy to hole up in his lair and study. He sponsors a nearby village to provide for food. Rarely does he have to defend it, which on the whole works out well for both parties.
Incidentally, throughout his life Yevuard is directly responsible for a number of magical breakthroughs and discoveries. The one he deliberately "shared" with humanity resulted in most creatures losing the ability to access magic for the next approximately 5000 years, so he may be perceived negatively by some.
