Aksha - Planetary Setting

Inasmuch as my characters have a life outside of the various external fictional settings I choose to bring them into, they have a home planet with their own stories. One of these planets, home to Ged and Yevuard I have named Aksha, inspired by the meaning "origin", and because frequently used words are short.

Cosmology

Aksha was created to house corporeal bodies by a collection of cooperating gods. Each of a number of groups lead by individuals or oligarchies chose to create an intelligent species of their choice, with their lesser followers thereby receiving an opportunity to incarnate in these forms and live lives isolated from their previous existence, in a manner essentially indistinguishable from how we live our lives here. Two of those species are the dragons and the humans.

In this setting magic is a real and active force, and is at first quite willing to function according to the will of those who wish to exert themselves upon the world. At the time of the birth of Ged, who is ostensibly the major viewpoint character of the setting, the world has aged around 1500 years since the creation, all but the oldest of the first dragons have died off, and humans have largely supplanted their original creation myth with a mixture of many others.

Dragons

Because despite my intentions to the contrary it is necessary to declare "our dragons are different" (beware; site is a cognitohazard timesink) due to the sheer variety of draconic presentation across various forms of media.

Akshan dragons grow continually for many years, until death by violence or heart failure, the latter occurring at around 900-1200 years generally. They are not "color-coded for your convenience" - most are varying shades of muted greens/reds/greys, with color darkening generally with age, and completely unrelated to personality or moral philosophies. Some, like Ged's family, tend to be born naturally darker. Chroma values also vary by family, with Ged's brother more grey than black. So, hue is fairly constrained, chroma (green vs grey) varies moderately by individual, and lightness (white vs black) varies by age and individual.

Ged's shoulder height at 300 at around 7.5'/2.3 meters, which is large for his species and age.

The species has a broad, as opposed to pyramidal, snout which is just short of Mesaticephalic/mesaticephalic, as in some Molosser dogs such as Pit Bulls, Newfoundlands, Great Pyrenees, Bernese Mountain Dogs, etc. They do not have symmetrical cancerous explosions of horns or frills, beaks, or tail spades/clubs/forks/etc. I'll get a reference for the scales, spines, and horns later - undecided on a pair of horns or not, vertebral spines or not, and scale size and patterning (reptile, not fish). I've edited out the cancerous horn growths from the AI-generated images of Ged and Yevuard, to show what a smooth face might look like.

Akshan dragons can fly despite their large size - I'll just label it magic since even with minimal mass, their musculature would likely require significant force beyond reach of the square-cube law. They are also able to produce and spit gobs of natural napalm which ignites after some brief delayed contact with the air. I find this adequately close to "exhaling fire" as portrayed in some media while retaining some level of biological plausibility. Their forepaws are suitable for fine manipulation and use as hands as well as for bearing weight; of necessity and not only due to size they may not be as suited to it as human hands are however. They have six limbs and non-retractable claws on their legs, fore and aft.

Though convenient for enabling stories in human-sized environments, Akshan dragons have no inherent shapeshifting abilities. To counteract this, Yevuard develops an alternative which can be mistaken for the same, but it involves extensive preparation beforehand and the bodies do not share the same space.

Akshan dragons will often develop a strong interest in some topic or other throughout their lives, and are frequently responsible for pushing forward the field far beyond what others may consider reasonable. For example, one dragon in particular is responsible for most of the half- and partial- dragon creatures reported throughout the world. While they might disagree about the reasonableness of a course of action, they are used to being self-sovereign and thus typically allow actions from others which do not infringe on their own interests.

Dao of the Dragon

In an effort to codify draconic personalities, I have constructed the following "dao" or "way of life". This has some substantial overlap with my own life philosophy but is deliberately far less restrictive, among other differences, in order to accommodate the large variety of individuals to which it is meant to apply. I'll probably edit it as I gather feedback to improve the content and presentation.
