Pandora (FAWM 2025-5) Words by Joe Ficklin © 2025-02-26G C D G Prometheus received his due / Upon the mountain rock he waits G C D G As everyday an eagle flew / To punish those who fight their fates C G C D So Zeus in anger at the prize / Given to man from titan's hands G C D G Decreed another gift, devised / To bring torment upon the land G C D G Hephaestus from within the earth / The god of artistry did plan G C D G A perfect woman, she whose birth / Would bring about the fall of man C G C D For fire given by the one / Would lift men up to godly fame G C D G So punishment would now be done / Pandora raised to change the game G C D G And all the gods did give her gifts / To rival heaven's brightest star G C D G Beauty, wit, and longing cruel / And plagues hid up within a jar G C D G "Accept no gifts from Zeus" said he / Whose liver each day eagles fed G C D G Epimetheus could only see / The beauty that he'd vowed to wed C G C D As hindsight was the skill he bore / Each choice he made was for the worse G C D G Pandora stood outside his door / He could not see the awful curse G C D G And all the gods did give her gifts / To rival heaven's brightest star G C D G Beauty, wit, and longing cruel / And plagues hid up within a jar G C D G Oh, evil mind in beauty bound / As hard to grasp as grains of sand G C D G She tipped the jar unto the ground / And plagues swept out upon the land C G C D The evils Zeus had gathered in / To counter fire's burning flame G C D G And bury under weight of sin / The calling of Pandora's name G C D G And all the gods did give her gifts / To rival heaven's brightest star G C D G Beauty, wit, and longing cruel / And plagues hid up within a jar G C D G In vain we tried to stem the flow / The flame would only burn so bright G C D G So ever evil tends to grow / And darkness spreads in fading light C G C D But even if the gods are far / We still have strength that we can find G C D G With all the plagues spilled from the jar / A blessing, hope, was left behind G C D G And all the gods did give her gifts / To rival heaven's brightest star G C D G Beauty, wit, and longing cruel / And plagues hid up within a jar
