Ninja Cowboys Words and music by Joe FicklinKili-ee-ay, kili-ee-oo GD Ninja cowboys, down at the rodeo CGD Now you see them, now they’re gone GD And so are the horses they’ve been riding on CDG They showed up one summer, arriving by train DCG And filled the small station down at First Street and Main DCD Their lingo was all twisted, as one tried to explain GDCD They’d come to be cowboys out on the wide plain CDCDG They ride out from Raton with the sun at their back Tall in the saddle, they’re all wearing black With safety in numbers, like wolves in a pack Apaches have learned they aren’t safe to attack Refrain They rode to Lincoln County down the old Clovis trail (That was back before they laid the tracks for the rail) Cowboys clear to Texas thought these guys would all fail ‘Cause they weren’t very tall and their skin was so pale Apaches camping near thought to give them a fight Tried to sneak up on ‘em in the dark of the night The cowboys had no bark, they was nothin’ but bite Some Indians survived, running home at first light Refrain Never_looked for no trouble, they tried avoiding strife They never used their guns, they had some kind of knife If one threw it at you it would surely end your life Leave your children mourning, make a widow of your wife They were of Ninja tribe, although they all looked Chinese They built a large red house out by the willow trees They were so polite even mule skinners said please ‘Cause if you didn’t play nice, they would break your knees Refrain Then one day we woke up, the Ninja guys were gone Heading west to Cali, looking for some Szechuan Another month passed by then something going on A sailing ship unloading pirates at the train station Refrain (…Pirate cowboys…) (And so is the horse that YOU were riding on!)
