Stray Dog Man Words and music by Bill Sutton © 1985G C I'm always bringin' home the dogs that's found beside the road. G A D I feed 'em and I pet 'em and they keep me on my toes, G D C G But now it's gone a bit too far, I don't see why it's me C D C G That has to take the strays in from the whole damn galaxy! Chorus: C G I'm the stray dog man, and I do what I can C D To give them pups some lovin' and a home. G C G But I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone! G C I was sittin' in the back yard in a tee-shirt and drinkin' a beer. G A D It was a hot and muggy evenin' but the sky was crystal clear G D C G When I heard an engine poppin' but there was no one on the lane, C D C G So I shrugged and looked to heaven, rubbed my eyes and looked again. G C See, there was this kind of flyin' pickup with a glow across the back G A D And as I watched it hover there out flew this gunny sack. G D C G Well, that pickup truck got fuzzy, then it flashed into the sky - C D C G That gunny sack bounced off the roof and it landed with a cry. C G I'm the stray dog man, and I do what I can C D To give them pups some lovin' and a home. (a home) G C G But I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone! G C Old Rover bounded over and he sniffed around the sack G A D Then he took off a-runnin' like he's never comin' back! G D C G Poor Fido was the next to go, he bit down on that thing. C D C G He died before he finished and he started turning green. (Kinda sad them four legs sticking straight up in the air) G C That gunny sack it rustled and it opened dark and wide G A D With the ugliest damn critter that I ever saw, inside. G D C G It crawled out, stretched, and preened itself, then it ate poor Fido raw, C D C G Picked up the tractor and gulped it down then sat back with a yawn. (Well by now I was getting mighty peeved. See that was a brand new John Deere.) C G I'm the stray dog man, and I do what I can C D To give them pups some lovin' and a home. G C G But I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone! G C I got a collar on it and I hauled it to the shed. G A D It tried to eat the padlock but I fed it nails instead. G D C G It cried all night out there alone, but I knew what to do C D C G I put a clock inside a mitten, but it ate that sucker, too! (I guess he got kinda hungry when the alarm went off) Spoken: It was kind of cute when you got to know him, though. I named him Ursa Major - that's because he was a major pain in the urse. G C I finally got him paper trained and I soon was glad to find G A D That everywhere that I would go, ol' Urse would tag behind. G D C G The other dogs accept him now, 'cause he eats the ones that fight, C D C G The twelve of them are nasty huntin' rabbits late at night. (It's a joy to behold! The rabbit thinks it's smart, hides inside a tree. Well ol' Urse, he eats the tree) C G I'm the stray dog man, and I do what I can C D To give them pups some lovin' and a home. G C G But I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone! G C I thought that was the end of it, but then a month went by G A D And another flying pickup tossed a sack out on the fly. G D C G It rustled and it rumbled, then that gunny Baggie burst C D C G And the thing that was inside it ate poor Ursa Major first! G C It happens every month or so, and I'm getting rather vexed. G A D As soon as I get fond of one, it gets eaten by the next! G D C G So I'm buildin' me a rocket, next time I get a sack C D C G I'm gonna shove it in the nosecone and I'll throw that sucker back! C G I'm the stray dog man, and I do what I can C D To give them pups some lovin' and a home. G C G But I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone! G C G Yes, I wish the ones in space would go find another place G D G And leave me and my doggies here alone!
