Pray the Rain (FAWM 2024-1)
Words by Joe Ficklin

Grey rain / Falling from a grey sky Wash away the memories of any other life / Pray the rain And let the darkness die / Rolling back the heavens where all the dragons fly In a world where rain / Falls endless from above And mythic creatures swim the sky / Singing songs of loss Where I, a stranger to this land / A stranger too, of love Can find a miracle in you / And see the world that was When you crossed the gate / The dragons took you in And made of you a slave / To serve their hidden need They put you on the earth / And tied you to the wind Your life is not your own / And dragons, too, must feed REFRAIN I was just a friend / But still I held your hand Staying by your side / The burden yours alone I gave to you a ring / A promise carved in sand That rain then washed away / And claimed your for it's own I could not let you go / I made it to the gate And found myself in space / Surrounded by the storm In my heart was fear / Perhaps I was too late I would lose the sun / To keep you safe from harm REFRAIN Falling through the eye / We left your castle cloud Falling to the earth / To wake on sacred ground But sometimes when you pray / Away from prying crowd The sun is shining still / And glory is your crown
