G D D G Rhiannan too, rode on down to Arberth A7 D From an unwanted union to hide. D G A7 Pen Annwn gave chase to the slow riding maiden D A7 But no speed would help him close ground. G D G Pwyll was foolish, he promised her old suitor, A7 D Who sought the girl and the feast for his boon. D G A7 Bound by his promise, Pen Annwyn forsook her, D A7 To Gwawl, the man whom she’d fled. G D G Until their wedding feast a year later, A7 D When Pwyll brought a bag to be fed. A7 D G D There is a mount of thunder called Arberth, D A7 Where only the worthy ascend. D G A7 “A boon I’d ask you,” Pwyll told Gwawl, D A7 “Just food enough for this bag.” G D G The feast went in, Gwawl called foul, A7 D “When will this bag’s hunger lag?” D G A7 “A great man must enter, and step on the contents, D A7 And say that enough is enough.” G D G And so Gwawl entered, joined its contents, A7 D And was beaten by Pwyll’s men rough.
