Little Cloak Boy
Words by Wayne Ballard

Am Em Silent city, silent university, Gm Am Just a muttered hum of classes soon to be. Em Busy minds rush by too fast to hear a song, Gm Am Thoughts on homework only as they speed along. C Gm Then across the campus rings a clarion call: A2 Am There is Cloak Boy, singing proud and standing tall. In the fields and on the sidewalks he is heard, Singing lone and harmless as a calling bird. Though a cloak is not the look of common choice, Some will pause and linger near to hear his voice. But a jealous few resent his reverie; The police of campus hear their bitter plea. Chorus: Gm C Little Cloak Boy, is it the authority, F G Or has criticism crushed your spirit's glee? Gm C Though the masses chant his name, he sings no more; F G He has thrown his cards in, counted up the score. Em Dm Little Cloak Boy, can you ever be revived? F C Am Is the shadow of the legend still alive? Though reluctant, the police now silence him, And the sun and sky both turn a little dim. The complainers also made their voices heard, Though their reasons bordered all on the absurd. So he sings again upon the letters page, Thus escaping like a songbird from its cage. Though triumphant, and despite his following, Though now free to do so, he no longer sings. He has lost the will to raise his merry calls, And the silence reigns once more along the halls. Little Cloak Boy, why do you now cease to sing? Will your voice bring forth again its joyful ring? Chorus
