Lyrics

1My jesses are fear and my hood my own lies,1 C D A
2My jesses are fear, and my hood my own lies,
3 C D A
2My wings pinned to ground by my thieving.4My wings pinned to ground by my thieving.
3Each evening I swear that tomorrow I’ll fly,5 C D A
6Each evening I swear that tomorrow I'll fly,
7 G D A
4But each dawn breaks not believing.8But each dawn breaks not believing.
9 D A
10I'm a mouse among men with no goals, no dreams--
11 G D A
12No reckon of right or of wrong--
13 D A
14But a magical maiden, more real than she seems
15 G D C E E7
16Fills my soul with the glory of song!
517
6I’m a mouse among men, with no goals, no dreams,18Chorus (after each verse):
7No reckon of right or of wrong.19 A C G D
8But a magical maiden, more real than she seems,20 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! Fly bravely on,
9Fills my soul with the glory of song.21 A E E7
22 Wings spread at each morning's light.
23 A C G D
24 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! From dusk to dawn,
25 C E A
26 Teach me the magic of flight!
1027
11 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! Fly bravely on,28 C D A
12 Wings spread at each morning’s light.29I feel strange lending help when I don't even know
13 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! From dusk to dawn,30 C D A
14 Teach me the magic of flight.31Where she's headed or where she has been,
32 C D A
33But my heart answers "Yes!" before my head can say "No!"
34 G D A
35And too soon I am drawn in.
36 D A
37But it's not just her beauty, for beauty I've seen
38 G D A
39(Though she outshines what beauty I know).
40 D A
41It's the faith she can place in the truth of a dream,
42 G D C E E7
43The good she believes I can show!
1544
16I feel strange lending help when I don’t even know45 C D A
17Where she’s headed or where she has been.
18But my heart answers, “Yes!” before my head says, “No,”
19And, too soon, I am drawn in.
20
21But it’s not just her beauty, for beauty I’ve seen
22(‘Though she outshines what beauty I know).
23It’s the faith she can place in the truth of a dream,
24The good she believes I can show.
25
26 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! Fly bravely on,
27 Wings spread at each morning’s light.
28 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! From dusk to dawn,
29 Teach me the magic of flight.
30
31I know I will always be weighted to ground,46I know I will always be weighted to ground,
32‘Though the path of the birds I admire,47 C D A
33But she makes me believe in the promise I’ve found48Though the path of the birds I admire.
34Chasing flight’s dream ever higher.49 C D A
3550But she makes me believe in the promise I've found
36For “unheard of” means only it’s undreamed of yet;51 G D A
37“Impossible” means not yet done.52Chasing flight's dreams ever higher.
38The magic I’ve seen here I’ll never forget,53 D A
54For unheard of means only it's undreamed of yet,
55 G D A
56Impossible means not yet done.
57 D A
58And the magic I've seen here I'll never forget;
59 G D C E E7
39The miracles love has begun.60The miracles love has begun.
40
41 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! Fly bravely on,
42 Wings spread at each morning’s light.
43 Ladyhawke! Ladyhawke! From dusk to dawn,
44 Teach me the magic of flight.

Notes

11Notes from Divine Intervention CD:
2I have very little control over what I choose to write music about. I never know what books or movies will inspire me, and I'm sometimes disappointed that I never come up with a song about something I really love (Why haven't I written anything for Buffy the Vampire Slayer?). But I knew walking out of the theater that the movie Ladyhawke had woken up something in me. A few days later, I was just playing through the strong, strumming opening chords I could hear in my head when my roommate leaned through the door of my bedroom and said, "You're writing a song for Ladyhawke, aren't you?"
3"How did you know?" I asked, startled.
4She shrugged. "It just sounded like Ladyhawke."
5I still consider that one of the nicest compliments anyone ever paid one of my songs.
