Capo 2 Am In the hall of Heorot the common people live, Em Am Like sheep they keep the many rules that nobody does give. Am Outside their walls live Grendel gray and Beowulf, Am The monsters and the heroes live away from mankind’s roof. Am Grieving Grendel’s only sin was his grandfather’s crime, Em Am Because of who his daddy is, he’s ’lone for all of time. Am When he sought to shelter with the rest of humankind, Am They feared him and attacked him, then his lonely name maligned. Am I will be your villain if it means a I have a chance Am Of saving someone from your trite traditionalist stance. Em Heorot is not for me, I stand outside the line, G Am If the hero keeps the status quo, with ‘evil’ I’ll align. Am A man of truly monstrous strength murdered her only son, Em Am Then hung his body on a wall to show what he had done. Am Grieving Mother sought to lay her child whole to rest, Am For this great and grievous crime her head was dispossessed. Am Beowulf, a mighty man, a king with gold and crown, Em Am He and his trove of bullies, they had power well renowned. Am He fought and killed a dragon just for living on his land, Am When all along the humans were the threat to his command. Am I will be your villain if it means a I have a chance Am Of saving someone from your trite traditionalist stance. Em Heorot is not for me, I stand outside the line, G Am If the hero keeps the status quo, with ‘evil’ I’ll align. Am We know from human history that some just do not fit, Em Am Their entrance into Heorot the people won’t permit, Am Because of their religion or the color of their skin, Am Because some say their love or gender constitutes a sin. Am The heroes of your stories, they protect man’s Heorot, Em Am Protecting it from hurt or change is their protagging plot. Am But I will stand outside the hall with those you’ve disavowed Am Knowing that the greatest threat still lives within your crowd. Am I will be your villain if it means a I have a chance Am Of saving someone from your trite traditionalist stance. Em Heorot is not for me, I stand outside the line, G Am If the hero keeps the status quo, with ‘evil’ I’ll align. G Am If the hero keeps the status quo, with ‘evil’ I’ll align.
