Ceridwen the goddess well she had one son, [G Em Bm Em] But he was really ugly so a soup she had begun [Am D7] The blessing of awen took a year to make, [G Em Bm Em] So she hired Gwion for her wrists’ sake. [Am D7 G] Stir, stir, the boiling cauldron hot, [G Bm Em] Prepare the knowledge bubbling in the pot. [G Bm C D] When the potion splattered on young Gwion’s hand, [C G Em G C G] He licked up the knowledge of the land. [Am D7 G] Ceridwen was angered so she chased him down, He became a rabbit and he hopped right out of town. He was Blessed with knowledge and with awen’s grace The goddess, now a Greyhound, began the race. Flee, flee, on land and sea and sky, Change to a salmon and then learn to fly, Well She follows as an otter, as falcon, He hides as a seed and then gets eaten. The seed that was Gwion, well it grew and grew, ‘til Cerridwen gave birth to her enemy anew. She threw him in the ocean hoping he would drown, But he was pulled from the sea with radiant crown. Sing bards, whoever you may be, Sing with the earth and the sky and the sea, He who was the hare, the salmon, and the wren, Sing to Taliesen, blessed by awen.
